Greek League Basketball Seeking Expansion
Men's & Women's Teams/Players
Greek League Basketball, the Washington, DC area's only Greek Orthodox Basketball League, is seeking new teams and players
for its 2023 season which starts in January. In addition to the men's league which is now in its 25th season, we are putting out a call for women's teams and players with hopes of expanding our four-team women's league which successfully debuted in 2019 to 4-6 teams for the 2023 season. League games are
played on Sundays at St. Katherine's Greek
Orthodox Church in Falls Church, VA and at St. George's Greek Orthodox Church in
Bethesda, MD. The men's season consists of up to ten regular season games and single elimination playoffs and our hope is to be able to do a five-game regular season plus single elimination playoffs on the women's side as well.
Who can join?
All players shall be at least 19 years of age and/or out of high school on January 1st of
2023. Players must be of either Greek Orthodox descent/culture or Philhellenes who are closely related to the community.
I have a team. How do I sign-up?
Captains/General Managers of teams can sign-up by sending an email to
[email protected]. In your
email, please include the following info:
- Team Name
- Names and Ages of those on your roster (max 12 players per team)
- Contact Email Address and Phone Number
Team fees (between $600-$800 for the men's league and $300-$400 for the women's league, depending on the size of the league) will be
collected before the start of the season.
I don't have a team, but I want to play!
Individual Players can register for our expansion draft (to be placed on new or
existing teams) by sending an email to
[email protected]. In your
email, please include the following info:
- Your Name
- Age
- City and State where you currently reside
- Height
- Weight (optional)
- Position (Guard, Forward, Center, etc.)
- Basketball Playing Experience (GOYA, High School, College, intramurals, other
adult leagues, etc.)
- Contact Email Address and Phone Number
When's the Deadline?
The deadline for new Team Registration will be Saturday,
12/31/22. Requests for
expansion teams will be considered on a first come, first served basis, so
please indicate preliminary interest, even if you don't have a full roster
assembled.
The deadline for the individual expansion draft registration is also Saturday,
12/31/22.
