DCGreeks.com
on The Dating Scene Radio
On January 27, 2002, The Guys @
DCGreeks.com made our radio debut on The
Dating Scene, a local show on WRC-AM 1260 to pitch our then upcoming
Magkes & Koukles Bachelor/Bachelorette Auction Fundraiser. The host of
the show, Stacey, overheard one of our bachelorettes talking about the auction
at a party and asked her for more information. The bachelorette's
admission that this auction was targeted at Greek-Americans didn't faze Stacey--
if it had anything to do with dating in the DC area, she wanted to talk about
it. A couple of e-mails later, she invited us on the show to
not only plug our fundraiser, but to explore the topic of dating in and out of
your own culture. Little did we know that a quaint Sunday night radio show
on a local business radio station would provide us with some of the best
memories of our early DCGreeks.com
careers. Turns out that Stacey was
friends with the band, Barenaked Ladies,
and one of the members, drummer Tyler Stewart, was a regular
call-in guest. To get ragged on by a member of Canada's most successful
bands in front of an international radio audience was truly classic.
Here are some photos taken in studio with Stacey and Glen.
Here
are some audio clips from that show, featuring Stacey, a 31 year-old Divorced Jewish
single-mom, Glen, the Greek-Syrian American producer, Tyler Stewart from BNL,
and us.
