Martha Graham Dance Company Performs Clytemnestra

When: Wednesday December 10, 2008
8:00 PM
Where: John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts
2700 F St NW
Washington, DC  20566

In celebration of Martha Graham's production "Clytemnestra" 50th Anniversary, on December 9 & 10 the Martha Graham Dance Company will return to The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts for the first time since its successful February 2005 engagement, to perform Kennedy Center Honoree Martha Graham's "Clytemnestra".

Earlier this fall in Athens, the Company performed the world premiere of the 50th anniversary production of "Clytemnestra" (1958), a landmark work not seen in its entirety for more than a decade.

Recently reconstructed for the ballet's 50th anniversary, it is believed by many to be Graham's finest dance-drama built on Greek mythology and the great Greek tragedies. Based on events in the lives of the star-crossed royal family of Atreus, the New York Times called the work "nothing short of epic drama," while Time Magazine said its "movements of whip-like vitality and agonized angularities brought to life the rage in Clytemnestra's mind."

The performance at the Kennedy Center's Eisenhower Theater will be the USA premiere. Please mark your calendars and book your tickets early for this not-to-be-missed event.
