On the occasion of the European Week Celebrations in the USA, the Embassy of Greece and the Chios Societies of America and Canada present a tribute to one of Greece’s jewels, the island of Chios and its unique culture, history, natural products and maritime history of the Aegean shipping since antiquity.

Mr. Marinakis will present the history of Chios as a naval power in ancient times and its influence and presence in Greece’s Merchant Marine industry.

Mr. Markos Marinakis is Director and CEO of the steamship agency and ship chartering corporation, Marinakis Chartering Inc.; ex-US Presidential appointee to the Board of Directors of the Panama Canal Commission (1996-1999); Director at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, DC (2008); Deputy-chairman of the Board of Directors of the American Steamship Owners Mutual Protection and Indemnity Association Inc.; and member of the Board of Directors of the Maritime Association of the Port of New York and New Jersey.
