Will include an exhibition organized by the Hellenic Parliament Foundation with photographs, artworks and memorabilia, books and record covers as well as live performance with a selection from Maria Callas’ repertoire presented by soprano Elizabeth Stevens and pianist Danielle DeSwert.  This second event will take place on February 13th from 7-9:00 p.m., at the Italian Cultural Institute,  3000 Whitehaven Street NW, Washington, DC 20008

The exhibition Maria Callas: 30 Years Later with a catalogue were first presented in Athens, in 2007, on the occasion of the anniversary of the 30 years from Maria Callas’ death, at the Exhibition Hall of the Hellenic Parliament Foundation. Since then, it became the traveling exhibition Maria Callas: A Tribute, first to be shown in the USA. This new venue led to the creation of new partnerships and collaborations and added new exhibition items and artistic events such as live performances from Callas’ repertoire and screenings of films on her life and work. This Tribute to Maria Callas is an homage from the three countries (Greece, USA and Italy) where Callas originated from, was born, studied and created her international career and legacy. Thirty plus years after her death, all the organizers and contributors are very grateful to Maria Callas for this wonderful opportunity of collaboration and inspiration.

The exhibition presents a selection of photographs from the archives of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Greek National Theatre, the Associated Press, the Hellenic Literary and Historical Archives, the Benaki Museum in Athens, EMI Classics, the ERT Historical Archives, the Arena Theatre in Verona, as well as from private collections; books from the Library of Congress; memorabilia from the Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation; works of art of Karolos Kambelopoulos and Aspasia Papadoperaki. Video screenings will be shown during the exhibition.
