St. Nicholas community brings traditional feast day event to Baltimore

BALTIMORE, MD – The St. Nicholas Greek Folk Festival announces a special one-day event on August 15, 2009.

“In Greece, the feast day of the Virgin Mary is one of the most important religious feasts and is celebrated with a religious ceremony followed by a great feast during which people dance, drink and eat all night long,” said Costas Triantafilos, owner of Costas Inn restaurant and chairperson of first Summer GreekFest in Baltimore.

The St. Nicholas community brings the lively tradition to Baltimore on Saturday, August 15 -- with the festival – Summer GreekFest -- starting at 3 p.m. Savor the taste of Greece with authentic, homemade food, listen and dance to modern Greek music by Apollonia Band, and watch as the youth of several Greek Orthodox Church communities perform traditional Greek folk dances.

One Night only, proceeds to benefit the Plateia Fundraising Committee, which is working to complete construction of a permanent cultural center to ensure continuity in the artistic life of future generations of Greek-Americans and their fellow citizens.  Donation is $10/per adult, children 12 and under are free.
