Plans for the 78th AHEPA Capital District 3 Convention have been finalized and
the Convention Committees from the host James C. Magin Chapter 383 are rolling
out the red carpet to delegates and others wishing to attend the Capital
District 3 Convention.
Lodging will be provided by the recently remodeled
Rockville Hilton. The Rockville Hilton is located across the street from the
Twinbrook Metro Station. Guests have the option of exploring historic Rockville,
Maryland or venturing into the nation's capital. Very exceptional room rates of
$109 per night for outstanding accommodations have been secured. Visit our HOTEL
INFO page for more information and to reserve your room.
Convention activities start off with a Tavli
(Backgammon) Tournament on Thursday, May 14. On Friday, May 15 the Tavli
Championship will be determined in the morning. After Friday’s business
meetings, come to the St. George Greek Orthodox Church Grand Hall in Bethesda,
MD and laugh your problems away with BASILE the Comedian. Following BASILE,
dance your problems away until midnight featuring the music of Zephyros. After
Saturday’s business meeting, attend the Grand Banquet and Dinner Dance featuring
the ever-popular Zephyros for your listening and dancing enjoyment.
For the
first time, the Adult Package includes BASILE and Grand Banquet Dinner/Dance for
a price less than one night’s hotel stay. Whether one is traveling from out of
town or resides locally in the National Capital Region, the Adult Package is a
great opportunity to attend 2 Convention events for the price of 1 event in this
challenging economic situation. Youth from age 12 to age 18 are also eligible
for the Adult Package.
All convention business will be conducted in spacious
hotel ballrooms. A hospitality suite will also be available. Delegate
registration begins at 8:00 AM on Friday. Delegates are encouraged to attend
with their families and there are a number of recreational and sightseeing
activities in Washington, DC proper and in the historic National Capital Region.
Convention activities will conclude on Sunday
with the celebration of Divine Liturgy at Saint George Greek Orthodox Church,
followed by the 40th Annual AHEPA Metro Scholarship Awards Luncheon at the
Rockville Hilton. While the AHEPA Metro Scholarship Awards Luncheon is a
separate sponsored event, we welcome delegates and others to attend, support the
milestone event and witness potential new members of the Order of AHEPA family.
On behalf of the Convention Committees and the Chapter Membership, we hope to
see you in Rockville, Maryland.
Fraternally,
Ted Kakavas, President
James C.
Magin Chapter 383
