Greeks Gamble... A Lot.

Here’s a story that doesn’t enforce any stereotypes. According to the World Lotteries Association, Greeks are tops in per capita gambling.

Here’s a story that doesn’t enforce any stereotypes.  According to the World Lotteries Association, Greeks are tops in per capita gambling, spending over $39,000 a year each.  (Greek Cypriots are 6th on the list.)  By contrast, Americans only spend about $11,000 a year on gambling.  The Greek statistic is staggering considering that Greek per capita income is only about $23,500.  So there must be a few Greek billionaires really bringing up the average for every one else, because Greek total spending on gambling comes out to over $4.3 billion.  The total spent in the US is $8.8 billion from a country of over 300 million people versus about 11 million Greeks.  Wow.
